Step 1: Hire a REALTOR®

Find and Hire a REALTOR®

The majority of buyers begin their home search by looking at websites like Zillow, Realtor.com, and others. I did the same and it helps to get an idea of what is out there on the market! But, once you are serious about purchasing a home, the first step to homeownership is to hire a REALTOR® to represent YOU!

Searching online on your own can take a LOT of time. Often times the data on home search websites are out of date as well. Many potential buyers have come to me thinking a house was for sale that they saw on Zillow, when in fact, it wasn’t! A Realtor® can set you up for automatic alerts via the Multiple Listing System (MLS), which is the most accurate source of information. This means that each day you’ll be emailed a list of new properties that match your personalized criteria or price reductions that now place a property in your budget. This is a time saver and advantage to be alerted right away when a home that meets your criteria goes up for sale.

So, how do you find and choose a Realtor®? Well, I’d love a chance to see if I’d be a good fit for you! You can call me at 616-805-9177 or hello@moniquehanson.com so we can discuss your needs!

Not all Realtors® are right for all people. Since you’ll be spending a lot of time with them, it’s important to find someone not only who is good at their job, but also someone you like and trust!

Testimonials

Below are some questions to get you started that you can ask me or other agents you are interviewing:

What is your schedule and availability?

When choosing a real estate agent, you really want to make sure they are someone who can be available when you are. Today’s market moves FAST and if your agent isn’t available or doesn’t have a plan if they aren’t available for you, it can cost you your dream home! I keep my client list on the smaller side so I can better serve YOU.

How often will you check-in and by what means?

Good communication throughout the home-buying process is a must! During the home search phase, I will check in and ask if any homes I’ve sent have piqued your interest or if you’d like me to update your search parameters. I may also send you homes that I see that I think might meet your needs and want to make sure you don't miss seeing them. During the contract-to-close process, I will likely be checking in at least once a week, if not more. I’ll also discuss with you how best you like to be communicated with, whether it’s over the phone, email, or text.

Do you work independently or with a team?

When you work with me, you can trust that you'll receive my undivided attention and dedication throughout the entire transaction. Unlike other real estate agents who may pass you off to assistants or other team members, I will personally handle every aspect of your home buying journey. I'm committed to being your direct and reliable point of contact, and if for any reason I'm not available, I have a trusted network of colleagues who can assist in a pinch. Additionally, if any unforeseen issues arise during the process, I have the full support of my brokerage's expert team available 24/7. You can have confidence that when you work with me, you're getting the best possible experience and expertise.

How long does it typically take buyers you’ve worked with to find and purchase a home?

Buying a home does take time and patience and the time it takes to find and purchase a home will depend on your motivation,  inventory levels, the lender you choose, and the area you're looking in. Generally, for highly motivated homebuyers who don't have a large list of must-haves, it can take 30-90 days to find a home and from there it takes another 30-60 days to close.

How will you determine what homes match my budget and needs?

A good agent will go over your pre-approval with you and make sure you are comfortable with the amount or see if you'd like to stay under the amount you're approved for. They will also go over your wants and needs. I will ask that you fill out a Buyer’s Needs survey that will help you sort out the minimum requirements you’d like in your next home. This will be used to help me keep an eye out for homes that come on the market that meet your needs.

How many clients do you work with at a time?

This is a really great question! When it comes to choosing a real estate agent, you want someone who is truly dedicated to your needs and not just looking to add another client to their roster. That's why I choose to keep my active client list intentionally small - so I can provide you with the personalized, attentive service you deserve. With me, you can trust that your real estate journey will receive the time and care it deserves, from start to finish.
